Houston is great, but sometimes you just need to hit the road. Whether you’re after a quick weekend getaway or an all-out adventure, here are the best road trips from Houston, all within a day’s drive.

1. Galveston (50 miles, 1 hour)

A classic Houston getaway. Stroll The Strand, hit the beach, and grab seafood at Gaido’s. For something different, visit the quirky Bishop’s Palace or kayak the East End Lagoon.

2. Brenham (75 miles, 1.5 hours)

Home of Blue Bell ice cream, rolling countryside, and springtime bluebonnets. Tour the historic downtown, sip wine at Pleasant Hill Winery, and explore Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site.

3. Huntsville (70 miles, 1.5 hours)

A small town with big nature. Hike through the piney woods of Huntsville State Park, visit the Texas Prison Museum, and see the massive Sam Houston statue.

4. Lake Livingston (90 miles, 2 hours)
